Home > Guides > What Is USPS Click-N-Ship?
Click-N-Ship is the US Postal Service's free online tool for buying and printing postage at home, with free package pickup from your door. It is US-only, and USPS offers it at commercial discount rates. Canadians use Canada Post's equivalent instead, or a label service like LetterAgent.
LetterAgent's shipping labels are Canada-only Xpresspost labels, so Click-N-Ship is a US service we can't provide. This guide answers the general question.
Click-N-Ship covers the most common USPS services: Priority Mail, Ground Advantage, Priority Mail Express, and Media Mail, plus First-Class Package service. You enter the destination, the package weight and dimensions, and the service you want, then pay and print the label on any printer. The tool also sells shipping insurance and signature confirmation as add-ons during the same checkout.
| Feature | USPS Click-N-Ship | Canada Post online (for Canadians) |
|---|---|---|
| Buy postage online | Yes, at usps.com | Yes, at canadapost.ca |
| Print label at home | Yes, any printer | Yes, or QR-code drop-off at some outlets |
| Free carrier pickup | Yes, schedule during label purchase | Available in some areas, often with conditions |
| Postage rates | Commercial-base discount pricing online | Online rates generally beat counter rates |
| Available to | US senders, US origins | Canadian senders, Canadian origins |
This is the part most people never learn: postage bought online is priced at the commercial base rate, which is lower than the retail rate you pay at the counter. USPS applies the same discount to every Click-N-Ship label. Canada Post works similarly: buying your label online at canadapost.ca costs less than handing the same parcel to the clerk. If you ship even a few parcels a year, buying labels online before you go to the counter pays for itself immediately, since you can also just drop the parcel off or schedule pickup.
Click-N-Ship lets you schedule a USPS carrier to collect your package during the normal mail delivery, at no charge, even for a single parcel. The pickup request happens right in the label-buying flow. One quirk: the pickup is tied to your regular carrier's route, so the time window is "whenever your mail comes," not a precise slot. Canada Post offers scheduled pickups too, but coverage and terms vary by region, and some areas require a business account or a minimum number of parcels.
For Click-N-Ship itself, yes: it produces a PDF label you print. If you have no printer, USPS offers Label Broker as an alternative: you get a QR code by email, and the post office or a Smart Locker prints the label when you drop the parcel off. The Canadian equivalent: Canada Post lets you bring a QR code to some outlets instead of a printed label, though availability varies.
Canada Post's online shipping tool at canadapost.ca does the same job: enter the parcel details, pay online, print the label, drop it off. If you'd rather skip the carrier's own site, you can ask your AI assistant through LetterAgent for a Canada Post Xpresspost shipping label: you get a per-label quote, approve the exact price, pay once via Stripe, and receive the label as a PDF. LetterAgent is Canada-only and Xpresspost-only, with a 5 kg maximum.
