Home > Guides > Where to drop off packages
Drop off a prelabeled package at the carrier's own locations, partner retail counters, or carrier drop boxes. In the US that means carrier stores, authorized shipping centers, and retail drop points; in Canada it means post offices and authorized postal outlets. Match the label to the carrier: a UPS label won't be accepted at a FedEx counter, and carrier cutoff times decide whether your package ships today.
Canada is simpler because Canada Post dominates the counter network. Post offices, including the postal counters inside pharmacies and convenience stores, accept any prepaid Canada Post parcel. If your label came from LetterAgent, it is a Canada Post Xpresspost label, so any post office or authorized outlet will take it. For courier labels (UPS, FedEx, Purolator), use that courier's own drop locations or authorized partners.
Two Canada-specific notes. First, not every outlet is equal: a full post office can do everything, while a small authorized dealer may have limited hours and no scale for oversized items. Second, street letter boxes accept small prepaid packets, but a box that does not fit through the slot has to go to a counter.
| Bring this | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| The package, fully sealed | Counter staff can refuse an open or badly taped box |
| The label printed and attached | A loose label in your pocket does not count: it must be on the box, barcode flat and readable |
| No postage due | Prelabeled means fully paid; if the label is short, you pay the difference at the counter |
| The tracking number handy | Screenshot it or keep the receipt email in case the drop scan does not register immediately |
The most common refusal at the counter is a damaged or reused box that looks like it will not survive the trip. If you are reusing a box, turn it inside out or cover old labels and barcodes completely: a stray old barcode can send your package to the wrong city.
Every drop location has a last pickup time, and missing it by ten minutes means your package sits until the next pickup. Carrier-owned locations usually have the latest cutoff; partner counters and drop boxes are earlier. If same-day movement matters, ask the counter directly: "What time is today's last pickup?" Online cutoff listings are often wrong for partner locations.
One more non-obvious point: the first tracking scan sometimes does not appear until the package reaches a sorting facility, hours after you dropped it off. That is normal. Keep your drop receipt until the tracking shows movement, because the receipt is your proof the carrier has it.
