What is Canada Post Snap Ship?

Snap Ship is Canada Post's free online tool for small-business shipping. Small-business members use it to compare services, apply discounted rates, print labels, and book pickups from a browser. It is the do-it-yourself route; LetterAgent's shipping labels are the done-for-you alternative: you ask your AI assistant and get a Canada-only Xpresspost label without doing the printing yourself.

What can you do inside Snap Ship?

The workflow is built for a shop shipping a handful of parcels a day. You enter the destination, weight, and box size; Snap Ship shows the Canada Post services that fit, with rates and delivery estimates side by side; you pick one, pay, print the label on your own printer, and either drop the parcel at a post office or schedule a pickup. Everything runs in the browser, with no software to install.

It sits inside Canada Post's Solutions for Small Business program, which is the important part: joining is what turns on the discounted rates. Canada Post assigns members a savings level that rises with shipping volume, reviewed quarterly against the past twelve months of spend. The longer and heavier you ship, the better the rates get, automatically.

Where did Snap Ship come from?

It is the replacement for two older tools, EST Online and Express Order Entry, which Canada Post retired for parcel shipping in early 2022. Shippers with a commercial parcel contract were moved to a tool called Shipping Manager; small businesses and Solutions for Small Business members landed on Snap Ship. If you find old tutorials mentioning EST Online for parcels, they are describing a tool that no longer exists.

Do not confuse it with ShipOnline, either. That is a separate, simpler label tool inside the Canada Post app aimed at personal shippers. Snap Ship is the small-business one, with the rate shopping and pickup scheduling that a shop needs.

What are its limits?

FactorWhat to know
Who it is forSmall businesses. High-volume shippers with a commercial contract belong on Shipping Manager.
PrintingYou print the label yourself, on your own printer, on your own paper or label stock.
CarriersCanada Post only. It will not compare couriers or show non-Post options.
PickupsAvailable, but one-time on-demand pickups carry a small flat fee unless you use the premium service.

The biggest practical limit is the one shared by every DIY label tool: you still need a printer, a scale, and the time to pack and drop off. If you ship occasionally and the parcel side of your life is light, that is fine. If you just need one label fast and want someone else to handle it, that is the gap a service like LetterAgent fills: one Canada-only Xpresspost label, quoted up front, approved by you, delivered as a PDF.

Is Snap Ship actually free?

The tool itself costs nothing to use. You pay for the postage on each label, at whatever rate your savings level earns. There is no subscription and no monthly minimum. The costs around it are the physical ones: your printer and ink, your packaging, and your time.
