How do I ship a package to another province?

Shipping to another province works like local shipping, with no customs forms, duties, or border checks: use the full street address with the correct province code and postal code, pack for a longer trip, and buy a Canada-wide label. The only real differences are distance, delivery time, and a few northern and remote-delivery quirks.

Do I need customs forms or extra paperwork?

No. Provinces are not separate customs zones, so a parcel moving from Ontario to British Columbia needs no customs declaration, no duty payment, and no import paperwork. That is the key difference from shipping to the United States, where a customs form is required even for a gift. The address label and the postage are the whole paperwork for an interprovincial parcel.

What you do need is a complete, accurate address: street number and name, apartment or suite number if there is one, city, province code, and postal code. A wrong postal code is the most common cause of a slow interprovincial parcel, because sorting starts from the postal code. Double-check the code against the recipient's own spelling of their address, especially for Quebec addresses, where accents on street names can matter for local delivery.

Does distance change how I should pack?

Yes, in practice. A parcel crossing several provinces passes through more sorting centres and more trucks than a local one, so it gets handled more often. Pack as if the box will be tipped, stacked, and shifted several times: fill gaps, tape seams twice, and keep the label flat and visible. Fragile items need the same care as for any long trip, with padding on all sides.

Time zones matter for delivery, too. A parcel addressed to the west coast is three or four hours behind eastern time, which affects when a delivery attempt happens and when a pickup counter closes. If the recipient must sign, tell them roughly when to expect it in their own time zone, not yours.

What about northern and remote addresses?

Some northern communities receive parcels by air, and air transport has stricter limits on items like aerosols, flammable liquids, and loose batteries. A parcel that would travel fine by truck may be held or refused if it must fly. If the destination is remote, check whether the item is air-eligible before shipping, and expect a longer delivery window than a city-to-city parcel.

Remote delivery can also mean pickup rather than doorstep delivery. The recipient may collect the parcel from a postal outlet or a community depot. A clear phone number on the order helps the outlet reach them, and tracking lets them see when the parcel is ready for pickup. If the parcel stays within Canada and under 5 kg, you can get a Canada Post Xpresspost label by asking your AI assistant: you approve the exact quoted price, pay once through Stripe, and get a label PDF to print and attach.

Do provincial holidays affect delivery?

They can. Provinces mark some holidays that others do not, so a parcel can sit an extra day if it arrives in a province on that province's holiday, or if it leaves a province on a local holiday. Around long weekends, send a day earlier than usual. The holiday that matters is the one where the parcel is being handled, not just the one where you live.
