Yes. You can ship a package to a UPS Store for someone to pick up: address it to the recipient's name at the store's address with Hold for Pickup on the label, and the store holds it until they arrive with ID. Most stores charge a small pickup fee.
One scope note up front: LetterAgent's shipping labels are Canada Post Xpresspost, Canada-only, with a 5 kg maximum, so the UPS Store pickup route described here uses other carriers and retail shipping, not LetterAgent labels.
Put the recipient's full name on the first address line, the store's street address on the next, and add "Hold for Pickup" clearly on the label. The recipient's name must match their photo ID, because that is what the store checks at the counter. One detail people miss: UPS Stores are franchises, so the specific store's policy is what counts. Call the store before you ship to confirm they accept hold-for-pickup packages and to ask about their fee. Most do it routinely, but a store can decline, and you do not want to find that out after the package is already moving.
| Step | What to do |
|---|---|
| Address it | Recipient's name, then the store's street address, plus "Hold for Pickup" |
| Confirm with the store | Call ahead: confirm they accept hold-for-pickup and ask the fee |
| Tell the recipient | Share the tracking number and the store's address and hours |
| Pickup | Recipient brings photo ID matching the name on the label and pays the pickup fee |
Photo ID with the exact name on the package, and payment for the store's pickup fee. The fee is the store's own charge for receiving and holding the package, separate from whatever shipping cost you. Policies on how long a store will hold a package vary by location, so ask when you call: a week or two is typical, and unclaimed packages eventually get returned to sender. If the recipient cannot get there in time, some stores will hold longer if asked, but that is a favor, not a guarantee.
There is no single company-wide answer, because each store sets its own holding period. Typical is around one to two weeks before the package is sent back. The practical move is to time the shipment so it arrives just before the recipient can collect it, rather than shipping early and hoping. Send the tracking number the moment you have it so the recipient can watch it land and plan the trip.
UPS Stores exist in Canada too, and the same hold-for-pickup pattern works, with the same advice to call the specific store first. If you are shipping within Canada anyway, also consider the carrier's own pickup options: Canada Post's FlexDelivery, for example, lets a recipient route parcels to a nearby post office for pickup at no charge. For a Canadian recipient, that is often simpler than a UPS Store, since post offices are everywhere and there is no pickup fee.
