Can I fax a contract for signature?

Yes, in most of the US and Canada a signature sent by fax counts as a signature, because faxed signatures have been treated like signed copies for decades. The contract has to be an agreement, with offer, acceptance, and consideration. A few deals demand a wet-ink original, so read the contract's signature clause before you rely on a fax alone.

This is general information, not legal advice.

Why does a faxed signature usually hold up?

Courts and businesses have accepted faxed signatures for decades, on the same logic as photocopied signatures: the mark shows intent, and the fax confirmation page ties it to a number, a time, and a page count. Many contracts now say so outright, with a clause that a faxed or electronic copy counts as an original. Where the contract is silent, the general rule in most of the US and Canada still treats the faxed signature as binding, though a dispute gets harder to win without the paper trail.

When is wet ink still required?

Real estate transfers, wills, some notarized documents, and certain court filings still demand an original in ink. A contract for a house sale that says "original signatures required" means what it says. If the other side's lawyer asks for the original after the fax, send it: the fax bought speed, not a replacement.

How do you run the counter-signature loop?

Sign, fax, and ask the other side to sign and fax back. Each side then holds a copy bearing both signatures, which is the practical point of the loop. Check every page of the returned copy against your own: a fax can drop a page, and a missing page in a contract is worse than a missing page anywhere else. Keep the confirmation pages with the contract.

Can LetterAgent fax a contract for signature?

LetterAgent's fax service is in testing, with activation still in progress. You describe the fax to your AI assistant, approve the exact quoted price, and pay once through Stripe. It handles US and Canadian fax numbers only, and it cannot receive faxes. For a signing deadline, use the other side's own route and keep the confirmation page: testing is not a promise that a fax sends today.
