Home > Guides > Amazon Hub locker explained
An Amazon Hub locker is a bank of self-service pickup lockers where your Amazon delivery waits instead of sitting on your doorstep. At checkout you pick a locker near you, then enter the pickup code sent by email or the app to open your compartment. One honest limit: LetterAgent shipping labels cannot route to lockers; they cover Canada Post Xpresspost delivery to addresses only.
It starts at checkout. When you buy on Amazon, the shipping options include nearby Hub locker locations with their addresses, so you can pick one close to work or on your commute. After the carrier drops the package in a locker compartment, Amazon sends you a six-digit pickup code and a barcode. At the locker, you type the code on the touchscreen or scan the barcode from the app, the right door springs open, and you grab the package and close the door. No signature, no waiting for a delivery window, and no package sitting visible on a porch.
Lockers also work in reverse: many locations accept Amazon returns. You start the return online, get a code, and drop the item in a locker compartment instead of boxing it up and finding a drop-off point.
Lockers come in compartments of different sizes, but they are built for ordinary parcels, not furniture. If your item is too big or too heavy for the available compartments, Amazon will not offer the locker at checkout. Some items are excluded entirely: certain hazmat goods and very high-value items generally cannot go to lockers.
| Limit | What it means in practice |
|---|---|
| Pickup window | You have a few days to collect the package after the code arrives |
| Package size | Must fit a locker compartment; oversized items are not offered the locker option |
| Eligible items | Most standard Amazon orders; some restricted or high-value items excluded |
| Returns | Many lockers accept returns with a code, no box or label needed |
The package is picked up by the carrier and sent back, and you get a refund once it is processed. You do not get an extension by asking the store that hosts the locker; the locker is Amazon's equipment and the store staff cannot open compartments for you. If your code does not work, check that you are at the right locker location (the email names it) and that you are using the code for the current delivery, not an older one. Codes are single-use and tied to one package.
Lockers shine when your doorstep is not safe: apartment buildings with no secure lobby, houses on busy streets, or workplaces where personal packages are frowned upon. They also help when you cannot be home for a delivery and do not want a "sorry we missed you" slip. The tradeoff is the trip: you trade doorstep convenience for a pickup errand, and the pickup window means you cannot let it sit for a week. For senders, the honest note from the top bears repeating: a Hub locker is an Amazon delivery endpoint, not a general parcel address, so carriers like Canada Post deliver to the street address on the label instead.
