Can I ship multiple items in one box on one label?

Yes. One label covers one box, no matter how many items are inside it, as long as the combined weight and size fit the service. Pack each item separately so they do not damage each other, and list every item on a customs form for a cross-border shipment. The label counts boxes, not contents.

This is how most personal and small-business shipping works. A seller sending three items to one buyer uses one box and one label, not three of each. The savings are real: one label, one tracking number, one delivery, and less packaging overall. The risk is also real, and it comes from packing, not from the label: items that touch each other in transit break each other.

How should I pack several items in one box?

Wrap each item on its own, then separate them with padding. A heavy item next to a light one will crush it, a sharp item next to a soft one will cut it, and a liquid next to paper will soak it if it leaks. Individual wrapping plus dividers or crumpled paper between items stops all three. Put the heaviest items at the bottom, the lightest on top, and fill every gap so nothing shifts when the box is turned over.

Think about weight distribution as well as protection. A box with all the weight on one side is awkward to carry and more likely to be dropped, and a dropped box damages everything inside at once. Spread the weight evenly, and keep the total weight within what you can lift comfortably: a box that is hard for you to lift is hard for a handler to lift too.

Does combining items change the price?

It changes the weight and size the carrier charges on, which is the whole point. One box weighing the sum of its contents usually costs less than two boxes each carrying half, because you pay one base charge instead of two. The exception is dimensional weight: a half-empty large box can cost more than two small snug ones, because the carrier charges for the space as well as the weight. Pack into the smallest box that fits everything with padding, and the combined shipment stays the cheaper option.

Weigh the packed box before buying the label, not before packing. Packing material adds weight, and a label bought for the unpacked weight can be short, which means a surcharge or a return to the counter. A bathroom scale works for a rough check, and a kitchen scale works for lighter parcels.

QuestionAnswer
How many labels for one box? One. A label identifies a parcel, not an item.
How many labels for two boxes to one address? Two, one per box, even to the same address.
Does the price depend on item count? No. It depends on the packed box's weight and size.
Do I list every item on a customs form?Yes, for cross-border shipments, each item with its value.
Can I combine a fragile and a heavy item?Yes, if each is wrapped and separated with padding.

What about a customs form for several items?

A cross-border shipment needs every item listed, with a description and a value for each. "Assorted goods" or a single total for the box is not enough, and customs can hold a parcel with a vague declaration until the sender clarifies it. List items plainly: a sweater, a book, a watch, each with its own value, rather than a lump sum.

This matters for duties too. Duties are calculated on the declared items, and different item types can attract different rates. A box that mixes a duty-free item with a dutiable one gets its bill from the dutiable portion, but only if the form separates them. A vague form invites the officer to value the whole box at the highest rate in it.

Can I ship two boxes on one label?

No, and this is the mistake that pairs with the question above. A label is tied to one parcel, and two boxes need two labels, even if they go to the same address on the same day. Bundling two boxes together with tape or shrink wrap does not make them one parcel either: carriers treat a strapped pair as two parcels, or refuse it, because their sorting systems handle one box at a time.

If you have two boxes, buy two labels and track them separately. Tell the recipient two parcels are coming, so they do not assume the first delivery is the whole order and report the second as missing.

How does this work with a LetterAgent label?

LetterAgent provides Canada Post Xpresspost labels in Canada, for parcels up to 5 kg, quoted up front and paid once through Stripe. Pack all your items into one box, weigh the packed box, and get one label for it. If the combined weight passes 5 kg, split the shipment into two boxes with a label each, rather than overloading one box past the limit.
