Wrap each holder alone in bubble wrap, support the stem and the base separately, and pack holders in divided cells so they cannot knock together. Glass and ceramic holders break from a single knock, and a stem is the weakest point. Never stack bare holders in one box, and fill every gap so nothing shifts when the box moves.
Start with a layer of tissue or packing paper against the surface, then bubble wrap over it. The paper layer stops bubble wrap from leaving marks on a glossy glaze and keeps small chips contained if the worst happens. Wrap the stem first, with extra layers around its narrowest point, then wrap the base and the cup, so the whole holder is covered with no bare spots.
For a holder with a flared cup or a delicate rim, add a small ball of crumpled paper inside the cup before wrapping. The paper supports the rim from the inside, so pressure on the outside does not collapse it. Tape the wrap closed, and do not use tape directly on glass or glaze: tape residue is hard to remove from a decorative finish, and pulling tape off a painted holder can lift the paint.
Use cell dividers, the cardboard grids used for glasses and bottles, or make your own dividers from folded cardboard. Each holder gets its own cell, and each cell gets padding around the holder. Without dividers, two wrapped holders still knock together, and bubble wrap alone does not stop a hard knock between two heavy objects. If you have no dividers, wrap each holder thickly and place a folded cardboard sheet between them, then fill the remaining space tightly.
Place the heaviest holders on the bottom and the lightest on top, and never place a heavy holder on top of a stemmed one. A stemmed holder should travel upright, with the base down and the cup up, supported by padding on all sides so it cannot tip. Fill the top of the box so the holders cannot bounce when the box is set down, and do the shake test before sealing: silence means the holders are held, and any sound means a holder can move.
| Holder type | Wrapping | Packing |
|---|---|---|
| Glass stemmed | Stem wrapped first, cup supported inside | Upright in its own cell |
| Ceramic pillar holder | Paper then bubble wrap, all sides | Cell or divider, base down |
| Metal holder | Bubble wrap to prevent scratches | Separated, never bare on bare |
| Set of matching holders | Each wrapped alone | One cell per holder, heaviest below |
| Ornate or painted | Paper against the finish, no tape on surface | Extra padding, upright |
Only if the candles are part of the sale or gift, and only if they are wrapped separately. A loose candle in the same cell as a holder will scuff it, and wax can transfer onto glass and glaze in warm conditions. Wrap each candle in tissue, bag it, and pack it in its own space, not wedged against a holder. In summer heat, a parcel left in a warm van can soften wax, so keep candles out of direct contact with holders and out of the top of the box where heat collects.
Remove any burnt wick debris and loose wax from a used holder before packing, and wipe the holder clean. Old wax and soot transfer to packing material and to other holders in the box, and a recipient opening a gift does not want to clean it first. A clean holder also shows its condition honestly, which matters for a sale.
Ask your AI assistant for a Canada Post Xpresspost shipping label through LetterAgent, approve the exact quoted price, and print the label PDF. LetterAgent labels are Canada-only, flat-rate Xpresspost, and cover parcels up to 5 kg. If the parcel is headed outside Canada, LetterAgent cannot provide the label, so use a carrier that serves that destination directly. Put the label flat on the largest side of the box, clear of seams, and photograph the sealed parcel before drop-off. That covers most candle holders and small sets, but weigh a large set before you ask for the quote.
