Can I fax documents to Veterans Affairs?

Yes. US disability claims and evidence go to the VA's Claims Intake Center in Janesville, Wisconsin, by fax, toll-free inside the US. Pension, education, and health claims route to different offices, so match the claim type to the right destination before sending.

Where does each type of claim go?

Claim typeWhere it goesFax route
Disability compensation (Form 21-526EZ) and evidenceVA Claims Intake Center, Janesville, WIToll-free 844-531-7818 inside the US; 248-524-4260 from outside the US
Pension and survivors' claimsThe Pension Management Center for your stateA different fax line: check the VA's pension page for your region

Health enrollment (Form 10-10EZ)The Health Eligibility CenterNot the Janesville intake number

The fax numbers above are confirmed from current third-party reporting on the VA Evidence Intake Center. The single most common mistake is faxing a pension claim to the disability intake line: it lands at the wrong facility and stalls until someone reroutes it. When in doubt, match the form number on your paperwork to the destination the VA's official pages name for that form.

What should every page carry?

Veterans' service organizations give the same advice: put your full name and VA file number (or Social Security number) on every single page, not just the cover sheet. Faxes separate pages all the time; a page that drifts out of order is re-matched by the name and file number printed on it. Add the document type, the submission date, and page numbers across the packet. And never send originals: the intake center scans everything into its electronic system and the paper originals are not returned.

Does the VA provide a fax cover sheet?

Yes, the intake center publishes an official evidence fax cover sheet that you print and send as the first page. Using it routes your fax to the right scanning queue and keeps pages linked to your file. If you are using a service to send the fax rather than your own machine, make sure the cover sheet is the first page of the document set you hand over: a missing cover sheet is how evidence ends up scanned into the wrong veteran's file or queued for manual review, which can add weeks. Write the claim type and the form number on the cover sheet so the receiving team does not have to guess.

Is fax or mail better for a VA claim?

Fax, for three reasons. It is faster than mail to Janesville, it gives you a confirmation page with date, time, and page count, and you keep the originals by definition. Mail works too: certified mail to PO Box 4444, Janesville, WI 53547-4444 is the published address, and veterans who want belt-and-braces proof use certified mail with return receipt. The fastest and most reliable route is actually the online upload on va.gov, which confirms receipt immediately. The practical ranking: upload first if you can, fax second, certified mail third.

What about Veterans Affairs Canada?

Qualitatively, Veterans Affairs Canada also accepts faxed paperwork for disability and other benefits, but it works through regional processing offices rather than one national intake fax, so the right number depends on your province and the program. Start with the program's own pages on canada.ca or call the department's contact line for the fax number that matches your file. Do not assume a US VA number is usable for a Canadian claim: the two departments are separate, and paperwork sent to the wrong country's VA will simply not be processed.

Can LetterAgent send this fax for me?

LetterAgent can send your fax if the VA office's fax line is a US number. You describe the fax to your AI assistant, get a per-fax quote with the page count verified, approve the exact total, and pay once through Stripe. The fax feature is currently in testing, so it is not promised to be available for any particular send, and faxes are outbound only: there is no inbound number to receive the VA's correspondence. Track the claim in your va.gov account after sending.
