The confirmation page is the main proof: a successful fax shows a report naming the number dialed, the page count, and an OK result. Then call or message the recipient and ask them to confirm the pages arrived and are readable. If the report shows an error or a partial page count, treat the fax as not sent.
Number dialed, date and time, page count sent, page count received, and a result field reading OK, success, or a similar pass mark. Match the dialed number against the number you meant to send to: a successful report to the wrong number proves nothing except a misdial. Match the page count too: a report reading 4 of 5 sent means the last page never arrived.
This happens, and it usually has a boring cause: the receiving machine printed to a tray nobody checked, the fax landed in a shared inbox nobody monitors, or the recipient's system filed it under a different name. Ask the recipient to check the machine's own received log, which lists incoming faxes by number and time. If their log shows nothing, resend: a report marked OK describes your machine's view of the call, not the recipient's filing.
For deadlines, legal filings, and money: a claim form, a contract, a payment instruction. For those, the confirmation page plus a recipient check is the standard, because the cost of a lost page is high. For a casual note, the report alone is enough.
A partial fax is a failed fax for filing purposes: the missing pages did not arrive, even if the rest did. Resend only the missing pages, and say so on the cover note, so the recipient does not file two overlapping copies as two separate faxes. Then ask the recipient to confirm the full page count again. Keep both confirmation reports: the first shows the partial send, the second shows the completed one.
LetterAgent's fax service is in testing, with activation still in progress. You describe the fax to your AI assistant, approve the exact quoted price, and pay once through Stripe. It handles US and Canadian fax numbers only, and it cannot receive faxes. Ask your assistant to check the job's status any time, and keep the confirmation details with the paperwork the fax relates to.
| Check | What it proves |
|---|---|
| Confirmation report | Number, time, page count, result |
| Recipient call or message | Pages arrived and are readable |
| Received log at their machine | Whether their machine logged the call |
| Resend of missing pages | Closes the gap without duplicating the whole fax |
