Yes, in some places: as of October 2026, Canada Post delivers eligible parcels on Saturday or Sunday in the Greater Toronto Area, Ottawa, and Montreal at no extra cost, part of the weekend delivery model written into the June 2026 labor deal. Outside those areas, parcels still arrive on weekdays. Letter mail does not get weekend delivery anywhere.
The rollout started in the three metro areas where Canada Post fights private couriers hardest: the GTA, Ottawa, and Montreal. Those are also the places where Amazon, Intelcom, and other carriers already deliver seven days a week, so Canada Post was losing weekend-sensitive e-commerce volume. The Crown corporation has said it plans to expand the model, but no dates or new cities have been announced, so treat anywhere else as weekdays-only for now.
| Metro area | Weekend parcel delivery | Weekend letter mail |
|---|---|---|
| Greater Toronto Area | Yes, eligible parcels at no extra cost | No |
| Ottawa | Yes, eligible parcels at no extra cost | No |
| Montreal | Yes, eligible parcels at no extra cost | No |
| Everywhere else in Canada | Not yet | No |
"Eligible parcels" is the key phrase, and Canada Post has not published an exhaustive public list. In practice, the parcels most likely to move on weekends are the expedited products: Xpresspost, Priority, and Expedited parcels. A regular parcel or something dropped off late Friday in a city without weekend coverage will still sit until Monday.
The no-extra-cost part is what makes this notable. Private couriers have sometimes charged weekend surcharges or simply built the cost into rates. Canada Post folded weekend delivery into its standard service for eligible parcels in these cities, which is a genuine perk for small businesses shipping to them.
Weekend delivery was one of the structural changes Canada Post pushed for during the two-plus years of bargaining with the Canadian Union of Postal Workers. The union resisted it at first; the ratified June 2026 contract includes a new operating model to support it. The business logic is straightforward: Canada Post has lost enormous parcel market share to private carriers since 2019, and weekend delivery closes one of the most visible service gaps.
If you buy a Canada Post Xpresspost label through LetterAgent, ask your AI assistant for it as usual: per-label quote, you approve the exact price, one-time payment, label PDF in hand. Canada-only, 5 kg max. If the parcel is headed to Toronto, Ottawa, or Montreal, it may now be delivered on a Saturday or Sunday at no extra charge, which shortens the door-to-door time over a weekend by a day. Outside those cities, plan on weekday delivery and time your drop-offs accordingly.
