Where can I pick up a Canada Post parcel?

You can pick up a Canada Post parcel at a post office counter, a postal outlet inside a drugstore or other retailer, a Canada Post parcel locker, or the parcel compartment of your community mailbox using the key left in your letter slot. Bring the delivery notice card plus photo ID. If someone else picks it up, they need the card signed over to them and their own ID.

Where can you pick up a parcel?

Pickup pointWhat it isWhat you need
Post office counterThe classic pickup: a parcel the carrier couldn't deliver waits behind the counterThe delivery notice card left at your door, plus photo ID
Retail postal outletPostal counters inside drugstores, convenience stores, and other retailersSame as the post office: notice card plus photo ID
Parcel lockerSelf-serve lockers at some postal stations and buildings, opened with a code or keyThe pickup code or key from the delivery notice
Community mailbox compartmentThe oversized parcel compartment built into your neighbourhood mailbox bankThe small key the carrier leaves in your regular letter slot

What should you bring?

The delivery notice card is the main document: it's the slip the carrier leaves when a parcel needs a signature or won't fit in your mailbox, and it names the pickup location. Pair it with government-issued photo ID showing your name. The address on the ID doesn't always have to match perfectly, but the name should, and the card ties the two together. If you lost the card, bring the tracking number and your ID: staff can usually look the parcel up, though it takes longer. For a parcel compartment in a community mailbox, you don't need the card at all, just the key the carrier left in your slot. Use it promptly and leave the key in the compartment lock when you're done, so the next parcel can use it.

How long will they hold it?

A carded parcel is typically held at the post office for about two weeks before it's returned to the sender. The exact hold period is printed on the delivery notice card, so check it rather than guessing. If you know you'll be away, you can ask for the parcel to be held for pickup in the first place, or have someone else collect it: they need the notice card signed over to them (naming them as the pickup person) plus their own photo ID. A signed card without a named person is usually not enough, so write the name clearly.

Can you ship to a pickup point on purpose?

Yes, and it's a smart move if your building has a theft problem or nobody's home during the day. Canada Post's FlexDelivery service gives you a postal address tied to a post office you choose, so online orders go straight to the counter instead of your door. It costs nothing and takes a few minutes to set up. Senders can also use the deliver-to-post-office option when creating the label, which routes the parcel to a chosen location from the start. Either way, you get a pickup notice instead of a doorstep gamble, and the parcel waits behind a counter rather than on a porch.
