No. LetterAgent's labels only cover Canada Post Xpresspost parcels under five kilograms, and alcohol-based hand sanitizer is a Class 3 flammable liquid that Canada Post will not carry. In the US it has narrow surface-only exceptions. Here is how the rules work.
The effective ingredient is alcohol, usually ethanol or isopropanol at sixty percent or more, which is what makes it work and also what makes it a Class 3 flammable liquid. Ethanol's flash point sits around the temperature of a cool room: on a warm day, vapors above the liquid can ignite with a spark. The gel form does not change the classification; it just slows the spread a little. Canada Post's dangerous-goods index puts alcohols and alcohol-based products firmly in the flammable-liquid class, so consumer parcels are out regardless of bottle size.
| Situation | Canada Post | USPS |
|---|---|---|
| Small personal bottle in a parcel | Not accepted | Narrow exception possible: surface transport only, strict quantity limits per parcel |
| Case of large bottles (a business shipment) | Not accepted in consumer mail | Only through hazmat channels: limited-quantity marking and documentation |
| Alcohol-free (benzalkonium) sanitizer | Check the classification: not a flammable liquid, but still must meet general parcel rules | Much simpler: non-flammable, but not automatically mailable |
| Sanitizer wipes | Same class issue: the alcohol is the same | May fall under different treatment than liquids: check current rules |
Because retailers move it through commercial freight with dangerous-goods paperwork, trained handlers, and quantity limits that consumers cannot replicate with a printed label. The limited-quantity exception that makes bulk sanitizer freight possible depends on proper marking, specific packaging, and staff who know the rules. A consumer label carries none of that, and the carrier's system has no way to tell a properly prepared hazmat parcel from a bottle tossed in a box. So consumer parcels get a flat no.
Close, but not identical. Perfume is also a flammable liquid for the same alcohol reason, and it travels the same restricted path. The practical difference is quantity: perfume ships in small bottles that sometimes fit inside limited-quantity allowances where those apply, while hand sanitizer tends to come in bigger bottles that do not. The classification logic is the same; the arithmetic is what differs. Alcohol-free sanitizer is the real odd one out: without the ethanol or isopropanol it loses the flammable-liquid classification, which changes the conversation entirely.
This is the one scenario where the answer softens. USPS permits limited quantities of flammable liquids like hand sanitizer by surface transport with strict per-parcel quantity caps and marking rules: no air, small containers, proper labeling. Businesses that sell sanitizer online use these provisions (or the private couriers' hazmat programs) to ship to customers. So the rules are not "nobody can ship sanitizer anywhere": they are "consumers in Canada cannot put it in regular mail, and consumers in the US face tight limits." LetterAgent's labels are Canada Post labels, so the Canadian answer is what applies to you: no.
In 2020, hand sanitizer went from a niche product to something everyone wanted to mail: grandparents sending bottles to family, small businesses pivoting to produce it. Carriers saw a surge of parcels containing exactly this flammable liquid, and the answer many people got at the counter was an unwelcome surprise. The episode is a good reminder that classification does not bend for good intentions or emergencies: a flammable liquid in a parcel is a flammable liquid in a parcel, even when everyone is trying to help.
