Rural addressing varies by region, so the golden rule is simple: copy the address exactly as the recipient writes it: rural route (RR) numbers, box numbers, and all. Automated sorting leans heavily on the postal or ZIP code, so getting the code right matters more than getting the road name perfect. In Canada, the postal code goes on the same line as the city and province, with two spaces between each part. If you're unsure about a rural address, ask the recipient to confirm it before you mail anything time-sensitive: a wrong RR number in the countryside has fewer fallback delivery options than a wrong apartment number in the city.
It can. Rural routes are often served from a regional hub rather than a local office, so a letter may ride further before it even starts its journey: allow extra time compared with city-to-city mail. If a deadline matters, the registered option (US Certified Mail / Canada Registered Mail) adds tracking and proof of delivery, so at least you can confirm it arrived. And if speed is the real concern, online mailing sidesteps the rural leg on the sending side entirely: the letter is printed and posted from within the destination country's mail stream.
